I'm not sure if win2000 is the same or not (it's been a couple of weeks since i've messed with it and i'm starting to forget), but in winME, exploring "My Network Places" it shows ALL the shared computers recources. I want it to show it like it does under the Entire Network icon (computers resources under the specific computer it's on), or just not show them at all, so i have to go to the entire network. In other words like 98 did...
Also when I search how can I search an entire network computer(or better yet the entire network) for a file. When I browse it will only let me search 1 drive on that computer at a time. 98 would let you do it. It doesn't make since that they would take that option out. That would be a down grade in my opinion... |

Guess "I" must be an expert(OK so much for blowing my own horn)
I figured out the solution to the first solution, and a somewhat combersome solution to the search problem. The explorer solution is to delete all the current network places. Then goto the entire network and drag the icons for the individual computers upto network places. It will make a shortcut there(then just delete the words "shortcut to") The search problem although combersome to setup is: (first of all it you want to do a search of more than one drive you have to separate the "places" with a ";" e.g. //scott/c;//scott/d ) next if you want to search all the network places that are shared make a txt file with a string like the example above with ALL the shared resources you want to search. then you can copy and paste what's in the txt file into the search area. Then save the search for the future.(the reason for the txt file is for easy editing. there you go(it was alot easier in 98, but i'm not giving up on ME yet.....stay tuned....) I think this will work for 2000 too..... ![]() |
