Hi All,

I turned on my PC this morning and when I try to run a .exe file I receive the message "Cannot find pkcuouq.exe"

I think it`s a virus of some kind, but after doing a search on the web I cannot find anything to do with this file.

Can anyone help? I`m sending this from another PC as I cannot run any .exes at the moment.

You antivirus has detected and quarantined the virus.

First, download and run EXEFIX08 from here

If this program does not run, then it was the SWEN virus. Then, download EXEFIX08.INF from the same site. To run it, select the file, right mouse, install. (this will correct the EXE problem)
Then, download and run the SWEN Removal tool. It will fix the other registry entries that were modified.

If the EXEFIX runs, then the virus was other than SWEN.

You should still do a full virus scan with updated definitions to check.

Also, go into the options of your antivirus and change any that say Automatic, to say Ask Me. (or the equivalent).

You always want the AV to tell you what it found (the virus name) and ask you what to do. You can then tell it to attempt to quarantine the virus.

But at least now, you will know that you were infected, and with which virus.
