I don't think that will be a good ides as each computer will use differant drivers unles there exact dups,
also xp will install whatever drivers it needs, copying them to another morst likely won't work very good if at all.ot maybe I misunderstood your question |

the reason i want to do it is because i have taken a cdwriter out of an xp machine and put it in a 98 machine but i no longer have the driver disc and dont know the make of the writer so i wanted to copy the driver to the 98 machine and update the driver. i copied the file from c:/windows/system32/drivers/ and placed it in the same folder on the 98 machine but when i try to update the driver for the writer it doesnt detect the driver file in that folder...
where am i going wrong??? |

The device itself doesn't need drivers. But it does need a program to burn in Windows 98.
The burning program installed to Windows XP is different if you could lift it. You might have to buy some program. But try doing a search for freeware. You might be able to find some. If you find something at the flea market, make sure it has an installation product key! Last edited by RayH; 09-27-2003 at 11:17 AM. |

I don't think there is any need to back up any drivers for xp,
xp is set up to keep track of its self and if something is wrong, it will tell you how to fix it, with its own programs. all you really ever need the the cd if you need to reinstall anything, but the restore points are the best back thing going for xp. just personal files and data should be backed up |
