Q about XP user accounts

Ok I have XP Pro installed on my computer, but since I am the only user there is only one account (me). I want to make another account for if I let someone else use it - with all of the advanced functions disabled but just the programs available.

However most of the time I would not use this second profile and I would want it to still boot like it does now - straight to the desktop without having to click my name. Is there a way to do this?

Hi erucader,

Create the second user account, then download and install TweakUI and go to Login > Autologon and set it to automatically login with your current user account. Hope this helps.

1 How come some of the stuff on my desktop and start menu is for 'All Users' and the rest is just mine? I want them to be completely different between accounts.
2 How do I make certain startup programs run in different profiles?
3 Is there a way to not allow guest account to see my folders (that are supposed to be hidden but really aren't)?

  1. Some programs install their icons in the user account that installed the program, others install it in the "All Users" folder. Just move them around to the accounts that you want.
  2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Start Menu\Programs\Startup and place the shortcuts there. Just replace USER with the name of the user.
  3. Right click on your My Documents folder go to Sharing and check the "Make this folder private" option.
