Depends.... you can probably shut down a lot of those things in MSCONFIG and take out what you don't need.

Hi ez_rider

. . . and Welcome to the Pc Mechanic forums.

Sounds like you're ready to read up on the background info. I like to recommend pacs-portal and aumha.org for their wealth of information about Windows, system resources, and background processes [and msconfig, too, that Hal mentioned]

Here's the link to pac's portal: http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_content.htm

Aumha's Windows Center is at http://www.aumha.org

There are lots of good sites to learn at - some folks learn a bit right here at Pc mech.
. . . Gary

[p.s. ...it was Hal and Cricket who steered me to those sites a few years ago ]

Cool

HAHA! I win! I have 17 different icons on my taskbar alone. And with 41 processes I win (that's with only 1 IE open, I usually have at least 5 open)! lol So for me, 22 and 28 is critically low.

But seriously, I checked the processes and they all looked legit. There are only about 4 processes that I don't know. I run updated versions of Swat It, Adaware, SpyBot, and NAV on a regular basis. Plus, I have ZA and my SMC7004VBR router/firewall to protect and monitor my connection.
