deleting start-up programs

I know I can de-select programs from start-up by unchecking them from the start up list under the start-up tab in msconfig.
But what I want to do is to take these programs from the list.
I'm Running XP.
Thanks
chuck

If you want to permanently remove them from the list, you can run 'regedit' and do a search on the string, then delete the corresponding entry.

Should not do this unless you know what you are doing. Aimlessly deleting entries in the registry can adversely affect your computer.

Not sure why you'd be concerned with their residence on the start up list when they are unchecked, ct. Won't affect performance any. If you're running XP and want to tweak some programs (services) that slow you down, visit here and follow Viper's ideas. Apply selectively for your own uses. Works great if take time to read each service explanation.
