Go into your control panel and click on power options. I don't know if it lets you assign a time for your computer to shut down, but it does allow a shut down after a certain amount of idle time. You may also have power options in your BIOS.

It lets me set it to shut down after a certain amount of time and I had that set but I was getting annoyed by it shutting down in the middle of the day right before I was bout to start using it.

Try increasing the time of shutdown by one hour each day until you reach a point where it is not shutting down on you when you are using it and yet it is not on all night.

Maybe this utility would help:

Make a scheduled task to run this utility, and you are set.

Of course another option is to not shut the computer down at all but just send it into a power down state or hibernate, so it's power consumption is minimal but it is there if you need it.

The option in Windows is not to shut it down but to hibernate it. I tried the auto start-up thing on the mother board but it didn't come on this morning.
