Remove from uninstall list

OK, got one I can't solve. I've got a new Dell 4600 with XP Home. I deleted a lot of the factory installed BS, and when I uninstalled Dell Service Agreement, it left the entry in my uninstall list. When I tried to remove the entry with JV16, it created a second identical entry. I also use RegScrub, and it isn't finding anything. I've searched the registry, and it's not in there. Tweak Ui for XP will not remove entries from uninstall. Anyone have another idea to get rid of these duplicate entries? Thanks for any suggestions.

Look in :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

Each folder contains the entries corresponding to the uninstallable components of your system. Search within then, for registry key entries that correspond with the entries in your control panel/add-remove programs. For example if you have an uninstall entry called "Dell Proprietary Utility" then you should see it in the folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\_any_name\DisplayName = Dell Proprietary Utility

Statica-- Thanks for the reply. As I said above, I've searched the registry. At least half a dozen times in the "Uninstall" section you mention, and several times through the rest of the registry looking at everything Dell or support. This is something I can easily live with once I give up on it, but something like this must have a solution, so I keep looking. Any other ideas short of reinstall? It takes something fatal to make me do that-- I prefer to find the answer to the problem.

OK, now things are starting to get very strange. I d/l'd and installed SYS MECH. It does not see these entries. I got a small program from a friend of mine-- ADD/REMOVE PRO. It does not see these entries either. Both show the add/remove list, but neither shows the 2 entries (Duplicates), that I have the problem with. Both entries are only one word: "Bantec", no button to click, no size. These are left after I uninstalled Dell Support Agreement, which basically tells you that some Dell in your home support is farmed out to Bantec Company. It seems these have to be broken links, but nothing shows them. BTW, I uninstalled SYS MECH. I'm not saying there is any thing at all wrong with the program, but I have always mistrusted any program that claims to do it all. One reason I won't touch anything Norton. Just my feelings.

Good morning. Not important: Thanks for the link to My Uninstaller. I went ahead and tried it, but as in previous cases, it showed nothing. These programs all work by extracting the information from the registry. Since the Bantec Service Agreement info is not in the registry, these programs don't show it.
Ranger, that was my first thought. But I was told on the Dell forum that the Bantec Service Agreement can't be reinstalled from the Dell recovery CD. I will check to see if that CD can be browsed or searched, but don't think so. Also, if I remember correctly, the one time I clicked on it all I got was a text file.

Just out of curiosity, are you checking for a registry folder with the name Dell? It is possible to have cryptic names for the folders.

Statica-- I've been checking out everything that wasn't obviously something else. But, I've asked on the Dell forum if there is a way to reinstall this so I can try another uninstall. I've already searched the recovery CD's I got with the computer. If no one there has any ideas, I'm going to forget about it, and go get my life back. Thanks.

SOLUTION!!!!!!!!!

I found a registry program this morning that did a great job of searching the registry.

Registry Crawler v4.5

This program found 6 registry entries for Banctec. I used the program to export all 6 to a floppy and then had the program delete the entries from the registry. My Bantec entries in Add/Remove are now GONE. I'll keep the floppy for a few weeks to make sure there aren't any problems, but since all 6 were clearly marked Banctec and were install, etc, keys for Service Agreement, I don't expect to have any.

This program did the job whereas half a dozen others didn't. This is definately a "keeper" for searching the registry. BTW, it's shareware- 30 day trial. Kind of expensive at $29.95 though, for a program you probably won't use often.

Sorry, should have posted that. One of them was in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\MS\Windows\Current Version\Installer\User Data.
Four were in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\Installer\Product

and one was in HKEY_USERS\MS\IE\Explorer Bars (Not entirely comfortable with this one).

I should add that what this program did was append "=Banctec" or "Banctec Service Agreement" at the end of each key. Very strange, but very good. None of these keys showed up in JV16 as ignored items, either, which surprised me. I don't know how Registry Crawler identified these as Banctec. Well, been running for a while now, no problems so far.
