Changing passwords on PDC vs BDC
I have a cold fusion web program that can obtain user information and change passwords. It works great on the local primary domain controller that is within the same subnet of the web server, however we have other primary domain controllers for other domains and it doesn't work. The other controllers are located in other countries and it seems to be timing out.
We do have backup domain controllers for the other domains located locally, however if I try to change the password on the backup domain controller it doesn't seem to change on the primary domain controller because when you go to login the old password still works. I thought you could change your password on the BDC and the PDC would pick it up right away. Does anyone know for sure? TIA Mary |

Mary,
If your Primary and Backup Domain controllers are located in other countries, then naturally there will be a delay until the database is synchronized. You may manually force a synchronization and the passwords will immediately synchronize, otherwise, you may have to wait up to a few hours for synchronizaiton to take place. |

So you are saying that a BDC and PDC should replicate passwords immediately if they are local to each other or is there a setting? Mary |

Yes there is a little bit of a delay, but if you change your password on the BDC and log in again with the BDC, it should authenticate your new password immediately. On the other hand, if you change your password on one BDC and log on to another BDC, then there may be a short delay in authentication, no more than a few seconds. I hope this helps you out. |
