Firewall in WIN XP?
Him, someone told me a while ago, that he doens't bother with Norton Personal Firewall, seeing as WIN XP has one 'built' in the XP OS?
Is this true? If so, how do I configure it? thks

There is one built in to XP. I can't say how good is is or isn't.
Go to Internet Properties-Connections-Settings-Properties-Advanced, The firewall can be asctivated from there. There is a settings box in the lower right hand corner. |

The firewall that comes with Windows XP is good enough for most users; it is certainly better than nothing. It does lack the ability to monitor outgoing requests, though.

I have found Popup blocker to be about as effective as any in dealing with popups. Chas

XP`s firewall is very good, you can see for yourself by going to www.grc.com check sheilds up and it will tell you how vulnerable your comp is.XP`s firewall will show everything in stealth mode which is what you want.

A firewall must work both ways to be really effective. That is, it must block incoming packets as well as outgoing.
Trojans or spyware problems are constantly broadcasting info from your PC to their servers without your permission or knowledge. The firewall that comes with XP only blocks incoming packets but not ongoing, and you need to control what goes out as much as what comes in.

ZoneAlarm gets my reccommendation for being one of the best firewalls out there, and best of all it's free.

I'm using a combination of Norton Internet Security and the Win XP firewall and am very satisified. I personally prefer Norton because i can see not only inbound but also outbound traffic and can manually configure access for different programs.

Why would you use both NIS and the firewall in Windows? That is completely redundant.
