Deleted recycle bin files

Hi guys,

I've got a HP pentium 4 with XP home edition and i've got a question i hope you can help me with.

I emptied my nortan recycle bin about a week ago and was sure i didn't need to recover any of the files in there.Well now unfortunately i need some of the files that were in there before,in particular a couple of txt files and a few videos.

I searched the forum and found 2 threads, one which said to try norton unerase wizard which i did but no luck.Another had a link to a program but it seems to take forever to search for the files. http://hccweb1.bai.ne.jp/~hcj58401/

Without having to resort to the system restore feature, what is the best way to recover these files and is it actually possible?

PS: I'm not a expert computer user as you can probably tell.

After the data has been erased, and possibly written over, it can't really be recovered. Since it's been a week, chances a slim and get slimmer with a greater file size.

What do you mean "deleted any files after that" ?

If you mean from the recycle bin, then no but if you mean from my harddrive like document files etc, then yes.

If there was a chance, what program would be best for a last ditch attempt so to speak?

I'm not very computer wise but where do the files go after you've emptied the recycle bin?

The main files i'm after are 2 text files, and i know roughly there names.I guess that's what happens when you don't think things through first, lol.

Check for data recovery software, they should be able to recover your files .. for example: http://www.execsoft.com/undelete/undelete.asp?pr=udpr3

Just wanted to remind you - system restore will usually not bring back your videos and text files, it is not an alternative for backup, it simply saves a copy of core system files.

Also the more you use your computer, the more likelihood that you are going to write over the area on the hard drive where your file previously existed.

Thanks for the reply.

Unfortuanately that program's freeware won't recover the files and i don't want to buy it if it's already too late to recover the files.

I will try to search a bit more for any other programs that i can download off the net to try,if anyone has come across a good freeware program, please let me know, thanks.
