HD IDE Conroller Card.

HDIDE Conroller Card.

I am operating a dual boot on XP Home.
I installed a third HD and backed up my main HD onto it...OK.

I now have installed an ULTRA ATA/133 IDE RAID CONTROLLER CARD so that I don’t have to keep swapping back and forth between hard drives with the cable...BUT...all is not going OK.

On boot up it says press F3 to enter Raid utility...then I get
F1-delete Raid set....pressed F1 then get Enter the set number of Raid set to be deleted
F2-Create Raid set...pressed F2 then get nothing
F3- Create Spare Device..pressed F3 get no mirrored set
F4-To resolve conflicts...pressed F4 then get nothing.
F5-Config 1st. HD

If I try to boot through with the HD connected to the controller card I finish up with a totally
blank screen.

Too much for me.
The User Manual says
SIL680-RAID
SIL680-IDE

Do you intend to set up a RAID array? RAID generally needs at the least 2 identical model/size drives. It sounds like you are just wanting to be able to add the third HDD and NOT setup RAID. If this is the case reading your setup manual is imperative. What exactly do you mean by you backed up main HD? What other OS are you dual booting with? Is it on it's own independent drive or a partition of the C:\ drive?

I have a dual boot sys.
Xp on one HD
98 on another HD
I have, as a precaution, backed up the XP HD onto a 3rd HD.

The current scenario is that I need to switch cables to bring in my 3rd. HD.

In order to overcome this the computer shop suggested and sold me the Ultra ATA IDE Controller card that slips into my PCI slot with the potential of giving me 4 HD installations if required.

In Device Manager it checks out OK..as working..but I know differently.
