Wife's PC running WIN98 FE is losing time. Since it is nearly 4 years old I replaced the battery even though the battery tested good (just inside the green on tester).
Ran Avast, no viruses found. Ran Spybot and removed recommended problems. Any other ideas welcomed. Chas

I have generally found most computer clocks to do that, if you want it to be dead on, jsut get it updated through a time server.

Hi Confused,
I take it that replacing the battery didn't fix the problem? How much time is it loosing in a week? Don't know if I have any good ideas, but I have seen weak "brand new" batteries... so if you don't get any better tips, I would probably just try a second, new battery. TwoRails |

Thanks for replies. I had indeed replaced the battery yesterday and it lost 30 minutes overnight. Clock had kept excellent time up until about a week ago.
Will check again later now that Iv'e cleaned out Spybot hits. I didn't see anything that raised any red flags though as for as trojans go. Chas |

Well try another battery because that should be the only problem.

Some programs can cause systems to lose time for unexplained reasons. My wife's system will lose one hour somewhere overnight, but if I leave it... it loses only that one hour. If I put it back... the next morning, its back an hour again. I did as suggested above and have it sync to a time server with a program called About Time... no problems.

I used have a problem like that but I found that if I restarted the computer it would have the right time again.
