Hi, I have two hard disks and a CD-ROM. The current drive letterng is c:\ e:\ and d:\ respectively.

How do i make it to c:\ and d:\ for the two hard disks and e:\ for the CD-ROM? Thanks.

In Computer Management > Disk Management, right click on the drive an change drive letter or path. In order to change to a drive letter the letter will have to be free.

In other words, change the e drive to f, then change the d to e and then change the f to d.

You can have problems doing this with programs that read from the CD. Some will be expecting the CD to be d.

It's not the drive letter the programs look for really. It's the drive they were installed from. I've installed older programs from a CD drive labeled, say, F. They run fine, but as soon as the drive letter is changed, I have to reinstall. I've also tried this with CD drives labeled D, E, G and H.

Course, you could go into the registry and and make the necessary changes, but that's a pain. I know version 6 of partition magic could do that. I can't seem to find that in the version 8 I have.

Send a message via AIM to Panama Red
It's a feature of Partition Magic called Drive Mapper. It's under tools in PM 8
