Question Win XP Login Screen Won't Go Away!

What the heck happened here? I keep getting that screen that tells me to click on my user name on startup... I'm fairly convinced that the problem happened because of some new WinXP update I installed from the Windows Update site. I could be wrong though. I got new components and played musical computer parts, and reinstalled WinXP on both PCs... I think I only started to get the login screen at startup after I installed all critical updates.

Anyone got any clues as to how to get rid of this? My logins do not require passwords, I left them blank.

Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Send a message via AIM to ScurrilousPrune
Go to Control Panel>User Accounts>Change the way users log on or off and uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" This will just show a regular win2k type login screen where you type your username and password.

Oh, no, I mean, I don't want either of the login screens. My PC was like that for the longest time, so I know it's possible... It just all of the sudden wasn't after I reinstalled the OS and did updates... I know quite a few other PC's with no login screen as well...

Any ideas?

Use TweakUI. Under Logon/Autologon, check the box marked "Log On Automatically at System Startup". Takes care of it.

Thanks guys, but I was actually looking to do it without having to install third party software. I know that there is a way to do it within the Windows software; I'm just not sure if one of the critical updates I recently installed has anything to do with my problems, or if I'm just overlooking something obvious...

Did you recently install Microsoft Net Framework and set it up as one of the updates? If you did it Windows will ask you for your logon. You can disable the Net Framework logon in user accounts. Should bring you back to normal.

Ahhh great! That took care of it, thanks!

I just had to eliminate the other weird looking .net account from the users list and it works fine once again.

Thanks You!
