Do you have an active, fully updated anti-virus running?

Have you dont a spyware search, sometimes they can cause bogus error messages?

When did this start?

Does it effect windows ability to shut down or does it continue properly?

My anti-virus is up to date.
Haven't done a spyware search and it may have started about 2 months ago.
I can still shut down normally after I clik OK when asked about cannot delete Recent.
Can you suggest which spyware software I should try?.
Thanks

Spybot: Search and Destroy Just go down to the bottom of the page and download from tucows.com or download.com. Make sure you update from time to time so you get rid of all the latest spyware.

And your sure your AV is on auto-protect right?

I've been ooking around at symantec.com and Ive seen a few viruss that might cause the symptoms as those you mentioned.

Do you know how to get to your registry?

If you do you might want to check these locations and see if there are any suspicious looking values.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

It should look similar to this picture here...look for a name that you dont know, if you look under "Data" in the picture you see names you should know, like Norton, or Winamp...things like that...look for one that you dont know..
