My mistake again, I misread the title as task manager. Here's instructions for disabling task scheduler in Windows 98.

Been a long day.

Disabling it my way didn't work, it just comes back every time I restart. I tried DrZaius' link but I couldn't find that registry key. Anyone els know?

Try the normal procedure again = open Task Scheduler (you can right-click on it's icon in the System Tray and select Open, or find it in the System Tools menus). Then from the "Advanced" menu, select "Stop Using Task Scheduler" and click OK to finsih up.

Then, check in msconfig (or System Configuration Tool: Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information - and from the "Tools" menu choose System Configuration). Go to the "Startup" tab, and make sure that the scheduler isn't on the list.

Reboot to doublecheck on things & let us know if that doesn't work. It should. Best of luck
. . . Gary

[Edit - I just looked over at Dr Zaius's link - that Registry key is the same one changed by the normal procedure. You should have that key in your Registry. If perhaps you saw the "Run" but not the "Run Services" key, Run Services is just a few entries below the Run key. You navigate in Registry Editor just as you do in Windows Explorer - a tree view on the left.]

That worked.
Now I have another question that I've been meaning to ask. Maybe you can help there also.
My recycle been keeps reseting itself.
I add and delete alot of things on my E drive, I use a program called Window Washer when I want to delete everything because it keeps track of the size of stuff I delete.
The files are prety big between 120 and 300mb. And when I delete them the recylce bin says there isn't enough room and the files will be permanently deleted now. So I go into the recylce bin properties and set drive E's recycle bin size to 50%. But then after a couple restarts it resets to 10%. Anyone know how to fix this?

See if you have the option to "configure drives independently". If you do, set up a Recycle Bin just for the E drive with the slider bar over to the percentage that you want. If you're tired of that "confirmation" to delete, you can deselect that too, while you're in the Properties box.

Windows itself shouldn't reset it to 10% [the default value] unless you restore the Registry to a prior date. [. . . the wild card here being whether Window Washer gets into the act and resets it]

If you want to delete the files directly, and not have to fool with the Recycle Bin at all, you can select the files you want to delete, and then press Shift-Del (the two keys at the same time).

Other than that, you might try the WindowWasher website and see if they have a note somewhere about Recycle bin settings.
. . . Gary

[Edit - just checked around a little. There were a few notes about Recycle Bins with more than 2gb of files in them over at the MSKB, but these were for Win2000, not Win98. I might have missed something, though. I also took a quick look over at Webroot (Window Washer's authors), but nothing jumped out and said "Yes I reset the ReCycle Bin". You could leave an email for them, if you'd like = though I imagine they might consider this one a low priority item (compared to privacy/security problems, which is their specialty]
