reinstall xp on a partition?

Hi

I have my one hard drive partitioned into 3 drives, with windows on C, programs on D and media files on E. My computer has been in need of a reinstall of xp for a while now as its got messy with shareware programs installed etc, but I have got a lot of my music and work files on the E drive.

My question is, can I format drive C and D and leave E intact, then reinstall windows on the C drive, and reinstall my applications on the D drive?

Will my E drive stay intact?

Thanks
Haggis

Yes!

Because you have 3 logical drives, XP will recognize this during the setup process. Just boot from the XP disk and pick the partition you want to install to (C:\).

Once XP has completed its setup process, you can format D:\ from within XP... You can do this before you re-install XP if you'd like. Go to "My Computer" and right-click on the D:\ drive... "Format" will be an option on the menu.

Do you have a CDRW? If so, you should make a backup of everything you'd like to keep from E:\, just in case. XP won't touch the files on your E:\ drive unless you tell it to, however, it's always a good idea to have a backup burned to CD. You never know when the entire HDD could fail.

I can't think of any reason why anyone would need to reinstall xp. when yiu can use a restore point and go back to where it was installed the first time and any date from there to now.

I've had to reinstall XP several times. More than likely to due my own ignorance. The Restore feature has never been very reliable to me. I use Ghost and I keep everthing backed up to CD's.
