I recently installed a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card. I don't think the problem is related to that video card change but now when I run Restore I get
"System Restore is not able to create a Restore Point. Please restart the computer, and try System Restore again." That won't work, I tried MS knowledge base but the known RAID issue is not applicable as I am not running RAID, nor that hardware. No other workable leads work as offered by MS. Any ideas on how to get a handle on this weird problem |

Start with this.
Control Panel>Systems> System Restore. Is the box that says "Disable System Restore" unchecked ? Is the slider, which sets the amount of disk space System Restore can use, giving it enough space ? If all's well there post back and we'll check other things. edit: almost forgot the obvious, did you just let the restore points pile up automatically? You might want to delete the earlier ones. Restore
All old restore points must have been wiped out when the problem surfaced as I have no restore points now.
I have max% of each drive set, and the lowest is 1966 meg the rest are higher. And there is plenty of space on each. |

I've just remembered that there is software, that loading at start up, disables, System Restore in XP. Is a new video card and it's drivers the only thing you've added ?
I'm going to look for it now and will post back when I find some answers. |

Scroll down till you get "System Restore should not be enabled during program installation ": http://www.kellys-korner.com/xp_restore.htm
It seems to be the drivers, which fits the timing. If the advice there doesn't work I would do a repair install of XP. It won't cost you any data. I know many people do installs without disabling System Restore, me among them, but it looks like you got caught ( and I'm going to think carefully before I next install new drivers ). |

It works Again
I was able to turn off the monitoring, erase all check points, and left it turned off for a couple of days, reactivated it and walah it works again.
