screen saver questions

I have a couple of questions about screen savers:
1)Can I have a different screen saver for every windows profile?
2)Can I turn a video into a screen saver?
3)What kind of files are screen savers(screensaver.???)?
4)A good, reliable site to download screen savers.

#1. You can have a different screen save file for each profile so long as you have "Use same settings for all users" disabled: Control Panel>Passwords>User Profiles tab, make sure "All Users Of This Computer Use The Same Preferences And Desktop Settings" is not checked. If it is, uncheck it and then click OK.

#2. Sorry, don't know

#3. They are .scr files.

#4. Reliable sites are download.com and Tucows.com. There are probably others but those are two I can recommend. I've never had a virus problem with the dozens of downloads I've gotten over the years from either of those sites.

In general, I don't recommend screensavers for Win9x machines, since they are notorious using up system resources and "leaking memory". But they can be made to work, and can have some wonderful effects and uses.

The last link in this list concerns a tool that you use to create screensavers. Not sure if it will answer your video-to-screensaver question, but it might be worth a look. [I would imagine that if the average slide-show screensaver eventually eats up Win9x resources and crashes, a video screensave might do the same in even less time! But it might be fun to try. And if you can make it work, you get bragging rights.] You do want to have you antivirus scanner look at any of these downloads before you open them.

Edit - took a quick look at the "custom" site. They do mention one tool that will let you create "Flash" animation screensavers (not quite full-out video, but close)
