XP and blaster virus
hi:
upgrading to windows xp pro. Single machine on a network. Formatted drive using the NTFS and began the installation of winxp. All went well but was told as soon as xp went to do the upgrades from windows update website the blaster virus found an opening and began using my machine for broadcasting. Since i was the only machine running xp we just had to clean up my machine and the virus has no where else to spread across the network. Any ideas on installing and getting the updates for winxp and avoiding the sniffers and viruses that are lurking out on the net. thanks |

If you're behind a firewall with port 135 closed, you shouldn't have a problem.

Enable the XP firewall after the install then go on-line for updates.

definatly use a firewall, and av,then go to www.grc.com and get the program to turn off dcom as it is not much use to the average user anyway then you definatly won't have to worry about any rpc vulnerabilites at all
