Hard Drive Partitioning (WIN XP PRO)
On my 30GB hard drive, Win XP is using 15.1GB. I would like to make 4 more partitions on the rest of the unallocated space like this: Another 10GB partition, and the rest of the remaining space into three parts.
I am trying to use disk manager in XP Pro to do this but have some questions: Do I create: - Primary Partition or - Extended Partition And what is the difference between the two? |

Just read it
... So creating primary partitions would be what I want.

Uh, if memory serves I think you want Primary Partition (where the OS resides), then the extended partitions as the spares. I could be wrong, but that's just how I have it setup. Compaq did the partitioning for me on my Hard Drive number One (C/D) and I used Mandrake Linux's Installer to partition my second hard drive (F/G) and when i look at XP's partition utility it shows only one Primary Partition per drive (even when I had a four partitions on one drive).
Happy partitioning - and don't forget to backup! |

You can create up to 4 Primary partitions per HDD and only have one active, with extended partitions you can create multiple logical partitions.
