Run DOS games, DOS programs, DOS commands, and special DOS utilities that don't like windows, like memory checkers and disc imaging utilities as well as BIOS flash programs, etc...

DOS itself is an operating system (just like Windows, Linux, etc...) and you can use to run a computer just like any other operating system. Back in it's hey day, there were lots of companies writing all kinds of programs and applications just for DOS. If you do a search of the web, you'll find lots of programs, applications and utilities available from a variety of web sites.

Nowadays, we use it mostly to run utilities that help us troubleshoot computers.
