Its not worth it as an upgrade but as a new program it depends on what you need it for and your budget. There are several programs out there that will pretty much do what office does (word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, drawing, etc.) at a much cheaper prices. For instance, Staroffice and WordPerfect Office Suite will do just about (but not everything) everything that Office will (and Staroffice is generally compatible with Office and only costs $79. On the other hand, Outlook, which comes with Office, is a great program for scheduling appointments, email, and keeping contacts.

It really depends on what software you use primaraly, there are new and added features/fixes to word, excel, powerpoint, access. Publisher is now a main component and frontpage is no longer a main compoent.
If you use MS Outlook and Visio, i would say yes definately.. |

If like me and you only need a spreadsheet and word proccessing with spell checker then http://www.software602.com/products/pcs/ being free fulfills the bill.

I third openoffice.org...the only difference I can find between the two is thatg Open office has no grammar checker...at least one that I have found, so as long as you dont care if you make a few grammar errors...go for it! Free is better than spending $200 on a program that gives you a grammar checker....

Visio is a full featured (business standard) flowchart program
Publisher is exactly that, a desktop publisher that allows you to make brochures, business cards, flyers, web pages etc. (not that great). |

Visio not only does flow charts, but also has a nice network diagram feature.
As far as getting office 2003, it really depends on how you use office, and what you are using right now. If you are using it at home, and you have office 2000 or xp, its not worth the upgrade. If you are using it in a domain environment, it is an amazing suite, and definitely worth the costs to upgrade. BAsic edition comes with Word, Excel, and Outlook. Standard Edition comes with Word, Excel, Outlook, and Powerpoint. Additional packages you can integrate with office include Visio, Publisher, Project, Live Meeting, InfoPath, and OneNote. |
