selling XP home
i have a copy of XP home that i bought for my PC, but have since replaced with XP pro. can i sell my copy of xp home to someone? will microsoft give them/me a new cd key or whatever so it works on the new comp?

I think you might be confusing the activation and the install key, both of your copies came with the install key so as long as you include the home key with the sale then you are good to go. The new user just installs and activates as normal.
As an FYI Newegg sells OEM copies for 91.00 so set your price less that (or find some one who does not know about newegg!)

Might read through the EULA.txt (END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT) file found in your system32 folder.

but isnt the point of the activation kewy so a person doesnt put the same copy of XP on 2 comps? wont microsoft think i have it on my comp when this guy tryes to put it on his?

You are to be commended for trying to do the right thing. But not wanting to see expensive software sitting around doing nothing either.
Reading thru the Msoft EULA is not for the faint of heart, but most license agreements include a paragraph about 'transfer of license'. The essence is that license can be transferred to another party provided that software is uninstallled from first PC and original media and license material (such as a CD key) be transferred as well. |

When you installed XP Pro and activated it your computer was registered as having XP Pro and not XP Home. If you sell XP Home to someone along with the product key they will be able to activate it with no problem.

I purchased my boxed WIN XP at Fry's for $88.00 plus sales tax, on sale of course.....
