Weird Desktop Icon Changes
According to Ad Aware, SpyBot and a few virus programs I have no bad guys. However a few times a week my desktop icons completely rearrange themselves. Never seen this before.

Did the "AutoArrange" option get selected somehow along the line? If you only reboot a few times a week, that would do it.
You've probably been through those settings already, but it's available from the Display options dialog box when you right-click on an non-shortcut area of your desktop. Wonder what else it could be if that's not it . . . Gary |

Gary, none of that has ever happened. I use the pc daily and all the way back to Win95 this has never happened (many moons). I'm not deleting anything at all but a few times a week they suddenly rearrange. More a nuisance than anything but for something like this to suddenly begin has me baffled.

What about a run of a Registry Cleaner? Maybe a setting in there is off somehow.
Sometimes with strange desktop behavior I recommend repair installs of IE, or a Service Pack. Sort of the "hair of the dog that bit you" hangover trick. . . . while throwing some salt over your shoulder, of course |

I've had that happen if I need to start in safe mode then switch to my normal resolution.

flanzig1 has a point - if you change the screen resolution to 640x480 (VGA, as in Safe Mode) - the icons that won't fit vertically will be adjusted to the next column to the right.
Did you schedule a Defrag for Safe Mode in your Task Scheduler maintenance? |
