noisy modem

new system w/usr modem and win xp. I turned the speaker off in modem properties, but it still makes all that racket while connecting. I know there is a command that can be entered in "extra strings" that will silence it, but I can't find the book that I have it written down in. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Thanks,
DR

I've seen it recommended to try L0M0. Some have had success with just M0. All the "0"s you see are zeros.

Many USR models use these settings for volume control:

Ln Controls speaker volume (internal modems only).
L0 Lowest volume.
L1 Low volume.
L2 Medium volume.
L3 High volume.

Mn Operates speaker.
M0 Speaker always OFF.
M1 Speaker ON until CONNECT.
M2 Speaker always ON.
M3 Speaker ON after dial, until CONNECT.

Best of luck

Thanks, that worked. It's not what I remember though. I'll find that book sometime and post what it was on this thread.
Thanks Again!!
