Exclamation XP Welcome Screen/Ballons

Hey all. Got a good question.
1. On the welcome screen when I log on it says I have 123 new emails or unread emails (can't remember) I don't use outlook..all I use is yahoo. Is there a way to get rid of those "123" messages?
2. Can you get rid of the ballons at the taskbar. i.e. Network cable unpluged, ISP now connected at 10 mbps, ans so on. I'm sure everyone knows what I'm talking aboot.

Andy

You can use TweakUI for XP to rid yourself of the ballons. I have no idea about the e-mail notification, unless outlook express somehow got your e-mail settings and is automatically checking.

Does that Email message really bother you? It's hardly noticable on mine. There is a way to get rid of the balloons but it has escaped my mind for the moment. You shouldn't be getting the "network cable unplugged" message frequently. Some of those balloons tell you when something is wrong.

Yes. I had the same problem on mine. I am not sure exactly where it is on tweakui, but you can get rid of that notification from tweakui. I believe it is under the logon or welcome section.

Here's where to download it. It's on the right. There are other useful tools there as well.

I found it. Download tweakui for WinXP from the previous post and got to Logon/Unread Mail and deselect "show unread mail on welcome screen".
