msconfig - startup
Hi,
When running msconfig, what are the essential startup items that I need to keep checked. Also, how can I find out what programs some of the startup items are for? For example, Hbinst and WkUFind. Thanks. |

ScanRegistry is usually a good one to keep. Any anti-virus programs and firewalls are normally listed and desired. The rest is up to your desires...

I didn't see "ScanRegistry" as a startup item. Could this have possibly been deleted and if so how can I add it. Does ScanRegistry run differently in Win XP Home?

Hi - whenever I 'cleanup' msconfig I usually turn everything off except the Antivirus / firewall. Most programs want to be your startup buddy and kill the memory resources and slow it right down. Take control and manually start up the program instead of leaving some TSR available - you'll run better and smarter. The only thing I allow to start up besides the Norton Security in my beloved Webshots screensaver. And by the way if you accidentally shut off something you wanted, simply go back and recheck your item and restart. Have fun.
