OK I won't, but that's how I repaired mine. What kind of problem are you having that following the directions doesn't work?

Well I have repaired W2000 with cd before and it went real well but when I inserted the XP home CD it looked like it was going into a full install all over again. The horror story of why do I need to do this is a very long story but it comes down to the fact that I have 2 HDD one with XP on it and W2000 on the other. When I make each one the master I can boot to each one but when I make the W2000 the slave I cannot boot to it.

With XP, you have to go into like your going to install it, but then, you hit repair, and it will act like it is installing, but really it's replacing all of the files. It's a different repair process than what windows 2000 does.

Uninstall it and get a Mac?. No, really, I have had some luck with the recover console in 2k, but only on drives formatted fat32, I have never been able to sucessfully recover a drive under XP using the console. So now I back up constantly and hope for the best, but I'm always prepared for a reinstall.

I am not quite sure how you do it with Windows XP, but with Windows 2000, before you tell it to install, you hit R and you have a choice with express repair and recovery console..
Now with XP..You have to tell it to Install, and then select the drive that has windows installed and then you hit R for the repair process. It will act like it is installing Windows XP again, but all it's doing is replacing all of the system files, etc. So dont worry! |
