Multiple problems since updates!

Hi Guys,

I've got a few nagging problems that are really bugging me and it seems they started happening roughly after i installed all the windows updates that were recommended for my system.There were roughly 45 or so items which I downloaded from microsoft update including the SP1 upgrade(or something like that)pack for XP home edition.

I started another thread a couple days ago on the problem I had with the toolbar in xp but I think i didn't explain it correctly so i took a pic and hope someone can help.When i highlight a file that i've saved in documents,the file info comes up but not the picture of the page(circled bottom left of attached pic).It does the same thing with all pages be it,htm,mhtml etc.It however is ok with images such as jpegs but just not with page files.Anyone have an idea what could be the problem please?


Another problem i'm having which seems to have popped up more and more in the last couple days is that i'm getting an error message when trying to save certain pages.It says "the web page could not be saved".As an example the following page is one that i can't save.Could someone with IE6 try to save this page as a MHTML file and please let me know if you got an error message?

Sorry for the long post and many questions but i feel i'm going nuts here trying to work out what is wrong.

Before you installed the updates and SP did you backup your system? If so, I would recommend that you restore the system. If your problems disappear then you know it was one of the updates that caused it. You can then reinstall them one at a time.

If you did not backup your system, on the installation of the SP did you check the option to backup the SP. If so you amy want to consider uninstalling the SP and see if your problems disappear. If they do you can try to again install the SP making sure that no other system is running during installation.

Finally, if you did not do any of the above you may just try to reinstall the same SP over the current SP. I am not sure if it will recognize that the same SP is present and not perform the install.

I just read up a little more on the SP pack and i think it could be giving me the problems but i can't find it in the add/remove programs page.How do i uninstall it?

Unfortuantely i just realised that i don't have any restore points cause when i deleted a couple of viruses about 2 weeks ago i disabled system restore therefor all original points are gone.

These problems are really bugging me and i have no idea how to fix them!

Even though you have not uninstalled it, you might want to re-install the service pack. It should overwrite problem files.

I'm only a casual user but i think i'm losing my mind here.

More and more pages are unsaveable now with error messages and also gif images on this site and others are showing up and red x boxes.Along with my main problem i listed in my first post.

Now i found this on micros site;

It says that I may not be able to uninstall the SP1 and i've tried looking for the $ntservicepackuninstall$ folder they listed but the search came up with nothing.Please someone help me out here,should i just try to reinstall SP1 again or maybe SP1a on top of the existing one?
