Are you sure the RAM is compatible with that motherboard? What brand RAM did you install?

It is two modules of 256 mb pc-133, I cannīt see the brand anywhere in the module, but they are compatible with the mainboard because the where installed in two pc with the same brand of mainboard but with Windows 98se

WinXP is much more fussy about the RAM in use than Win98SE was. The RAM may work fine, but WinXP may just not like it for some reason. You might have to try another brand...unless the problem has gone away since that first boot up.

you could also be having an incompatiability betwen the new ram and the older sticks since it seems like the older ones are generic and I doubt you got the same brand.

This mainboard only has two memory slots, so I removed the old ones and replace them with the new ones, I donīt know but is there a configuration in windows xp when the memory exeeds the 512mb just like in windows 98se?, perhaps I have to reisntall windows or play with the registry. any ideas? I even cleaned the slots in case of dust but the error still display in the first boot.

ahh I remember this model now, what does it say on the ram chips? there is a p[roblem with ram compatiability on this board. I have seen at that very few success stories of 1GB Ram o nthe board as well. there isn't such a thing in Windows XP as there was in Windows 9x. try putting the old ones back in and see if it clears up and maybe mix and match between a new one and old one to see if there is any differences
