combne 2 favorites lists

I have 2 different computers. I would like to combine different favorites lists in IE that I have on the 2 computers into the same favorites lists on both computers without losing any of the favorites on either computer. Is there an easy way to do this?

That is the method I would also recommend. Although it does not keep the sorting that you have intact, it does keep the file structure the same though.

Although it is not clear to me what happens to folders that have the same name with different files in them, I'll give it a try.

Just back them up into two seperate spots then there is no harm in trying.

It appears to me that the proposed method will not work. After I copy the favorites list from one computer to a floppy and then try to copy that same folder to the same floppy there is a warning that all of the files in the same folder name will be replaced. Am I missing something?

All the files do not get replaced, only those that are already present will get replaced. IE is quite convenient in that respect as it uses .URL files in a folder to create favourites list.

As an alternative, you could go to
C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Favorites
and copy n' paste individual bookmarks to the floppy.

If you have files with the same name then unless for some reason they are pointing to different URL's you shouldn't have any worries. If you have two different folders with the same name but the contents are different I believe Windows combines the items in the two folders into one with the name of the folder.

I think that you do not want to do the folder, but just the contents of the folder

It's safe to do the folders, I just did the following test:
I picked a directory and created a folder I named "Test". In that folder I had two documents: test 1.txt & test 2.txt.
Then in a subfolder located on the root I created a folder called "Test". In that folder I have a new subfolder called New Folder, and in the root of the Test folder I have two text files test 3.txt & test 4.txt. I then copied the Test folder that has the subfolder and the test 3 & 4.txt files and copied that to the root where the Test folder that has txt files 1 & 2. It informed me there is a folder with the same name and am I sure I want to copy it; I said yes. The result was nothing was overwritten, the entire contents copied from was pasted to it's destination with the original destination files still there.

No worries just copy and paste dude.

Do you really need to go to all that trouble? Simply Export your favorites from IE on the source machine. They will be exported to an HTML file that you can save at a location of your choice. Then simply copy that HTML file to the target machine and select Import Favorites from IE, and point it to the file that you just copied over.

I don't know about other people but a simple copy and paste is just as effective.
