Can't delete a corruüpted file

I'm trying to delete a corrupted Windows mediaplayer file, but my PC tells me it is being used by another user or program. But it isn't. I'm the only person logged on and I closed down all other programs in the Task manager in my profile, except Explorer of course. I can't even cut, paste or move the damn thing. Any ideas?

Just curious, but what makes you think it's corrupted?

Did you try deleting it in Safe Mode?

It won't play at all. Gives me an error, which is why I wanted to delete it.

Did you try to uninstall it, then reinstall it thru the Control Panel?

Go into Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services, scroll down to "Indexing," double click on it and click on the Stop button to turn tha service off. Then try to delete the file. This works about 95% of the time.

If it doesn't work, reboot and access the file you want to delete through the File>Open feature of any program that does NOT play media files, Notepad will do just fine.

Then right click on the file and choose "Delete." This bypasses Windows Explorer (usually) and its insistence on indexing a file completely before anything much can be done with it. In the case of a corrupted file, that Indexing may never complete so the file stays "in use."

Well that didn't work, but I was able to delete the folder it was in after removing the stuff I wanted to keep. Very odd. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
