xp product key activation limit?
well i popped a new video card in the other day, and upon boot-up i was told that my product key had been activated too many times. it was activated before i put the new video card in. so i had to call M$ and do a telephone registration so it would let me activate it. i've had my copy of xp for a while now and i like to reformat about every six months. a friend was telling me about this, that if you use your product key too many times it won't work anymore.
my question is this... is my product key not going to work whenever i reformat now? am i going to have to activate by phone from here on out? |

Your product key will work fine. It is likely that you will not need phone registration (for the same information - ie. your personal information+your computer's hardware information stays roughly the same). Even if you do have to call in, its a wholly painless process.

yeah you should be fine as long as you don't change anything major, but remember it knows when you format that its different cause the partition volume would be different

I just had that same problem only it was after I added a new hardrive. I had to call ms tech support and talk to an actual human being to have it activated, then a few days later I decided to do a reinstall and now when I try to activate it again it tells me the key is invalid again so I have to call microsoft again I guess.
