Thumbs up The best way to clean install...

Hey everyone,

I recently purchased some new hardware, i.e. CPU+HSF and memory, and would like to do a clean install of windows XP after I get it all in there.

My setup is like this: I have a 20 GB Western Digital IDE drive for just Windows XP and my drivers, and I also have two Seagate Barraccuda SATA drives in a RAID O. I did this so that it would be a little easier to reinstall the OS without wrecking my RAID.

Given this setup, what would you recommend: a repair install or should I reformat my C drive and reinstall XP anew?

Thanks,

Odie

Personally I would install the CPU, heatsink and ram and see it the system will accept the new hardware without the install or repair. If it don't then go for the repair.

EDIT: I have swapped out the mobo, cpu and ram on more than one occassion and had no problems.

No need clean intstall- Just wasting time-unless you have time. The pc will function as it should. Unless you want to do clean install. Installing hardware does not disturb the OS

I know that the hardware will be accepted by my motherboard (A7N8X Deluxe), but it's been about 8 months and time to do a little maintenance. My boot times are slower now, and after windows loads it hangs for about 20-30 seconds before letting me access the internet or My Computer.

Will doing a repair install help these issues and will it clean out the registry at all? I am thinking no since it leaves files in tact.

This is why I'm confused. I don't think I really understand what a repair install accomplishes. Windows works fine, it's just slowing down, and if I have to reformat and reinstall XP to fix it, then it's no big deal. Install time shouldn't be so long with my new OC'ed Barton 2500 and Thermalright SLK800A

Anyway, if you can clear up my confusion, a huge thanks in advance...

a repair install will fix any problams you have with windows but not the programs you have on the computer and it may be one of them thats makeing your computer boot slow all a repair dose is reinstall windows over the top replacing any system files with the ones it came with if you want a clean install then boot with your xpcd and during set up you get the option to format the hard drive befor you install and that will fix all your problams then you nead to reinstall all your programs
