XP has me stumped
Im trying to set up a dual boot, Win2K/XP on my rig.
I tried a clean install on a seperate partition, tried an upgrade from the original Win 98 on a seperate partition, but nothing seems to work. XP will begin to initialize before the install, then hang and go no further. Any suggestions? XP Pro is what im trying to install, Win2K pro is my current OS |

check the xp cd is ok by copying it to a folder on the 2k partition all so xp is very fussey with ram so your ram may have a small problam that win2k is ok with but xp will hang on you and check the cd drive and ide cables as well if you can run setup from with in 2k and chose the other partition to instal to

Okay
I did all that, and coppied XP to a folder on my main disk, to be installed in another partition. During the initialization, it sez: The file "C:\$WIN_NT$~LS\i386\ASMS\6000\MSFT\Windows\Common\Controls\Comtrols.MAN" Is corrupt. It contains all zeros. then it restors the system and aborts the install. I checked the same file on the disk, and it contains all zeros too. Any Ideas? |

Well, I got passed that, and the install begins all the way past the reboot and restart in a DOS looking setup deal, then as it starts copying files, it hangs and never moves again.
Im begining to wonder how Bill Gates made any money at all |

you can try copying the above text to the file you have on the hard drive but you may have other bad files on the cd your best bet is take the cd back and get a new one edit it seams as thow the file is a html script as its difrent when shown on a web page if you want a copy pm me with your e mail address and i will send it to you as a zip file Last edited by andyms18a; 11-04-2003 at 01:57 AM. |

I found the file content out on the 'net and repaired the file, but still no dice.
Thanks anyway! |

Windows is such a POS. No matter how hard Microsoft tries to fix it, the truth is you can't polish a turd.
