CPU Usage maxes out
i've been having a problem the past few days where my cpu usage maxes out to 100% when i open a certain folder. I have a folder, containing numerous subfolders, of media files. recently, when i open it up, it crashes my computer. The folder freezes, and my cpu usage reads out at a constant 100%. the "explorer" process is whats causing it, it starts reading at a constant 97-99 in the task manager.
The folder contains about 85 gb of data. my harddrive is 200 gb total, 107 used. i have a p4 3.06 proccessor, and 512 memory. This has only been happening recently, in the past few days, if anyone has any ideas how to fix this, i appreciate it. thanks, george edit: after playing around, im pretty sure its most often my shared folder for k++ that causes the memory max out. When i open it, it maxes out the explorer usage, and even after i close it, it stays at a constant 100% Last edited by cybergeo3; 11-04-2003 at 07:00 PM. |

solution
i figured out the cause of this problem.
it turned out to be a specific file i downloaded. namely an episode of curb your enthusiasm, the filename was something along the lines of "s1e1_thepants" the file was write protected and it was not allowing me to delete it from my harddrive, i eventually was able to delete it via my k++ program window, and it did not leave a copy in my recycle bin. My guess is it might have been some kind of virus or program that caused the explorer process to eat up all the available memory, i honestly dont know, but it seems to have corrected the problem, just in case anyone else has this problem. |
