I installed drivers on one of my computers for an onboard ati 3D Rage Lt PRO. (windows98) It worked great, and i was able to get 800x600 graphics in counter-strike then a day came when it just woudn't play in OpenGL anymore this was anoying, so i reinstalled it, again and again, but wont even have an ATI icon on the bottom right corner where the clock was at. I tried other drivers with no success. whats going on here? its annoying now i cant play over lan with my friends anymore. someone help me through my crisis!!! NOTE:the driver is wme-j5-30-1-b02. worked before...

You'll probably have to remove all things ATi from the system & then try that driver again.
Before removing things, switch to the Standard VGA driver built into Windows. [from Device Manager/Display adaptor/Drivers/Change ...list all hardware...standard devices...Standard VGA] Then: if you have any ATi multimedia programs installed uninstall them, along with the drivers, from Add/Remove in the Control Panel. Then from Windows Explorer, remove the leftover ATi program folders [usually in C, C:\Windows, or C:\Program Files]. Then try a run of RegClean to erase the leftover hard-to-find registry values for ATi [http://download.com.com/3000-2094-881470.html?tag=list - details on how to use it are in the ReadMe.txt file] Then reinstall the drivers that worked the best in the past. Make sure it's an OpenGL version, since not all of the ATi drivers are. That onboard chip was pretty impressive in its day. Best of luck . . . Gary |
