Desktop icons are gone!?!?
I rebooted my system tonight and when it came back up I had no icons on the desktop. No "My Computer" or any of the others. I'm using WinME. I have tried rebooting several times, as well as running scandisk, to no avail. I still have a fully functional task bar, and all of my programs that I have tried work just like normal. By accessing "my documents" from the start menu, I can use windows explorer, but otherwise I have no access to any of my drives or files.
I'm really hoping that I'll feel really foolish after someone explains a very simple solution. Please help! |

See if the desktop is set to Active Desktop. I think there may be an option where you can hide all the icons while Active Desktop is running.

Ok, goal of feeling foolish has been accomplished. lol
I have 2 monitors working with an extended desktop, and have not had the 2nd monitor on for the last few days. Somehow (I'd still like to know how it happened) the icons got moved to the other monitor's portion of the desktop. I turned it on and there they were! Redid the settings in my display properties and all's well. Thanks so much for your quick response. |
