Outlook Express - minor problem

Since I've switched to XP Pro, I've lost the little envelope that shows up in the Task Bar whenever you get new email. I've looked everywhere I can think to turn it on, but can't find it...

Any ideas?

Try right clicking on the taskbar, properties. Taskbar tab, bottom box is notification area. Click on customize. If the env is in the past items box, check & see if it's always hidden...or you can try clicking restore defaults.

HTH

check under tools/options in outlook should be two options for notification 1 for the pop up and another for task bar envelope, they are in 2 different places but both are very descriptive.

I looked thru all nine tabs, several times each, and couldn't find anything related....

edit: I don't know if this helps or not, but this box is the Host for a small home network and it's running XP Pro. My main client box runs XP Home and the little evelope does show in the Task Bar as expected...

this is in MS Outlook but it might be close.

tools/options/preferences/email options/advanced email options/when new items arrive/show an envelope icon in the system tray

I scraped my Outlook Express some time ago for Incredimail not much nicer but it has spell check.

There is no "Preference" tab in OE. Funny, there is a check box for show New News groups, but not show new Email.

Well... it's now fixed, mysteriously of course. I upgraded my vid card and now, for the first time since installing XP Pro, I have the envelope icon appear when new mail arrives.

Also, strangely, the "Hide Inactive Icons" funtion no longer works.... !?!?!?

Any thoughts?
