PC Mechanic News Letter#9 (??)
Can anyone verify, or tell me what exactly this registry 'tip' does regarding my sytem memory?? I have 'gobs' of mem (768mb) but I'm curious as what the effect would have, and why I should try this 'tip' below>
****************************** ***Better Memory Management. You can have Windows use your memory resources more effectively with a quick registry edit. In your Registry Editor, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CURRENTCONTROLSET \ CONTROL \ SESSION MANAGER \ MEMORY MANAGEMENT. Set the DisablePagingExecutive key to a value of 1 then reboot.*** ******************************** Also--what do u think about the "Tweaks & Tools" utility offered in this weeks editon also...> Thanks for your comments! DisablePagingExecutive default setting was "set" when RAM was precious and scarce. Portions of system code and device drivers can be paged to disk when the system needs more page frames in RAM. The system slows when it next needs that code or drivers since it must load them from the page file. The system stops while the required code is swapped in or out of RAM dependent on very long hard drive access times. If you have more than sufficient RAM, disabling paging will speed the system overall. I am not sure I would turn on this option with less than 512M, at least for W2K and XP Pro. its A CPU intensive setting.
