Have you checked in Add/Remove programs to see if it's there? If so, try to remove it, if not, try Spybot S&D.

If you share the computer with others, someone may have downloaded and added a custom search bar. It might be removeable from your Add/Remove Programs list in Control Panel (Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs).

If it's a completely unwanted arrival, try a spyware removal tool such as LavaSoft's "AdAware" or SpyBot's "Search & Destroy". You'll also want to run a full system antivirus scan. If your current AntiVirus program isn't up-to-date, you can have the HouseCall online scan check for viruses.

Here are the links:
AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de
Search&Destroy: http://security.kolla.de/index.php?l...&page=download
HouseCall: http://housecall.trendmicro.com

If you'd like to read a little more about spyware in general, visit http://www.spywareinfo.com for background information as well as the latest news.

My bet is that your search bar arrived via Gator.

[Edit - hi there, Roger! I'm doing my usual sloth typing: type a word, take a sip of coffee - type another word, check a link - type another word, sleep a wink ]

Hey Gary! May be slow, but you go into more detail...I need to do more of that myself.
