Question nothing happens when plugging in USB device

I am plugging in a usb device but nothing happens. I know it works because I plugged it into another computer but when I plug it into mine, nothing. We are both using Win 2000 SP3 and doing the same things on both computers. Any ideas on how to get this to work?
Thanks,
Ron

what type of device is it? if it is a drive, it may be that the default drive letter is already in use. don't know how it is in 2000, but when you plug something in in xp, it gives an icon saying that it recognizes the that you just plugged in somehting. if there is something like this in 2000, is it happening with the device?

did you install the software that came with the palm pilot. when i first got mine it was not recognized until i installed the software

is it a sony clie, or is it an actual plam, because there were some issues with the clies and palm 4.1. many people got 4.0.1 and it fixed the problem

Cool

Check Device Manager and see if you have USB ports. I had a problem like that on my XP box and in Device Manage there were no USB devices. I checked BIOS and somehow they had been disabled. I enabled them in BIOS and everything was OK.
