Win Xp
Hello I am running win98se on c: partition and I had installed win xp on d: partition I have let the time run out on activation ,so I went to fdisk and deleted the partition xp was on and set the partition back up and reformated it. now when I reboot it still has the winxp option to boot to but of course it can't and when I try to boot to 98se it shut my pc down. I can go back to fdisk and delete all partitions except c: and win98se will run. What can I do to get win xp off the start up screen and get it back so I can repartition the rest of the HD?
Mobo Asus a7v8x-x , 40 gig western digital HD, 512 mb ddr ram, amd xp 2100 processor. Thanks |

You can boot up from a Win98 CD. I'm not sure what the exact command is. It might be 'fixboot', 'fixmbr', but most likely for win98 is 'fdisk /fixmbr' - not sure about the exact switch spelling.

Thanks I have the 2nd partition formated and win 98se will boot up and run . I cannot get the winxp start up option off when I restart . I still get win 98 and winxp option on rebooting . How do I get the winxp option off the screen ?I did go to boot.ini and deleted it from there but its still there.

i think you boot with a win98 floppy disk and type system c
to reload the windows 98 boot files over the xp ones
