NO SOUND... WIN Media player 7.1
I am currently using win media player 7.1, OS is win98. I am getting sound from the internet, games sites etc. I click on sounds from control panel I can hear sounds from there also. When I play a radio stn from win media player.. NO sound. When I try to play a web site using the player.. the same thing! The only sounds I get thru win media player is when I play a cd, but the sound is low.. and cannot raise it!
I have tried my volume levels on my keyboard, and also from my Master sound control panel. All checks out ok! I have NO yellow marks on my media devices in control panle either! Any ideas? Also, how do I get a web site to play thru the Interent explorer 6, instead of win media player? thks in advance 4 ya help!

You mentioned that you are getting sound from the Internet, game sites, etc ---> what program is playing these sounds? Internet Explorer doesn't really play sounds itself, it calls another program to play sounds (the default program for that audio format, depending on your File Type associations).
Some web radio sites need you to set up a default player (usually RealPlayer, Windows MediaPlayer, etc.) - then your player preference is sometimes stored in a cookie for that site. If you've tried several players, but usually use just one, try going into the Preferences menu for that player, and look for a menu entry that will set your player as the default program for the formats, such as streaming radio, that you'd like it to play. This is somewhat general advice. If you see any error messages, on the other hand, post those and we'll try to track down any software mixup. . . . Gary |

Well I have now my media player as in the IE 6 browser. Even there I cannot get sounds, when I visit web sites that do have sound!
I uninstalled my WMplayer after, thinking that maybe there is a conflict!.. Nope! Still cannot hear anything from media player. Withing IE 6. When I go to somewhere that has sound on its web page, I can hear the sounds there. This is not coming thru the Media player though. |

The sounds you're hearing are probably through "plug-ins" - such as the Shockwave, Flash, QuickTime, etc. players.
See what happens if you uninstall/reinstall Windows Media Player itself. . . . Gary |
