What is spoolsvc.exe??

I have a virus on spoolsvc.exe and I had Norton quarantine it and delete it. Everytime I boot up I get the error that it's missing.

What is it? Will it cause me major problems and if so how can I get another copy of it?

Thanks?

spoolsvc.exe is a service that has something to do with printing. if you don't use a printer it shouldn't matter. if you want it back you can probably just do a repair installation.

Reinstall

I reinstalled the printer software. I don't think the system restore is an option.

Is this a file that is vital? I have printed since I have deleted it and it's now more of an annoyance than anything else.

go to control panall admin tools services and find spoolsvc and set it to disabled then click start run msconfig and on the startup tab see if spoolsvc.exe is listed if so untick it and last
down load startup.cpl from http://www.softpedia.com/public/cat/13/7/13-7-9.shtml and instal it then in control panall dubble click it and check all the tabs for spoolsvc.exe and deleat it then reboot

I, too, have the exact same problem. Even though I never deleted spoolsvc.exe. All of a sudden, that error message just popped up when I booted the machine.

I have disabled the Print Spooler in msconfig, but that didn't help. I reinstalled the printer software, that didn't help either. What do I do now? Can someone just email me their spoolsvc.exe file for XP Pro? My email addy is jovenis - at - yahoo.com. Thanks in advance!

spyder003,

I received your email. Thank you. Unfortunately, that file is spoolsv.exe, not spoolsvc.exe. I already have the former already. Now I'm beginning to suspect that there's a trojan or virus on my computer. I've run a couple of scans, but I'll keep trying.

andyms18a,

thanks. i've combed through msconfig and can't find what's trying to startup spoolsvc.exe. and I searched the registry and can't find any mention of the file.

Norton AV doesn't find virus. I wonder how I got into this mess.

It doesn't work that way - you have to do a repair reinstall of XP.
