immediate XP log off once log on

My cousin is having a problem with his PC. He is running AMD Athlon XP 2100+, Windows XP Professional, 256MB PC2700 RAM, 40GB IBM, GF4 ti4200.

After he installed Mcafee Anti- Virus, this problem started. Basically what happens, is when he boots normal, once you log in, it automaticly logs him off. Happens the same in safe mode.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

What do you mean by log off? The user log off for XP log in at the start up screen or the computer restarts?

Once the user logs in, it automatically brings him back to the login screen and the process repeats.

May be possible he is suffering from a strain of the blaster virus, whilst the virus will usualy crash a system rather than bring it back to the log in screen, this is a possibility

to resolve this, once into windows QUICKLY change the year 1 year behind and then goto www.norton.com to get the patch

if this is not connected then a repair may be required, however a normal repair wont fix a virus

The problem is- He can't even get into Windows desktop. Once he logs in, it automaticly logs him off and brings him back to the login screen. I will tell him your suggestion guys.

Thanks!

I agree. That seems like your only deemable option at this point, unless one of the other suggestions work. Hope it works out for your friend! Good luck!
