What does a repair do?
What exactly does a repair from the XP CD do? Does it retain all of the files and settings? would it fix startup problems? I have never tried it. Help would be appreciated.

Win 98 has what they call SFC (system file checker) that restores system files. When that fails an over the top reinstall fixes things. I'm assuming the repair feature for XP does pretty much the same thing.

yes it will replace any and all missing and or damaged files.
also the same feature as sfc in in xp too, it will not damage or change any data or files except it will remove all and every update you have installed. the best thing to do is the system restore to a date that everything was working fine, and then it will be back to normal for you. |

Well that date is long gone. I think I am just going to wipe it clean and start over.
