Thumbs up start xp faster

i found this tip in the PC home magazine

to start windows xp faster click start, run, msconfig, go to the boot.ini tab and tick /NOGUIBOOT. this turns off the logo and progress bar before the welcome screen and will enable windows to start much quicker

i tyred it and its saved 5 seconds on my boot up time

Thanks. I will have to try that. 5 seconds doesnt sound like much, but when you are in a hurry to play that certain game, I guess it is a big deal! LOL!! Once again, thanks andy!

I never really cared for the boot screen anyway! Thanks!

*edit* It seems to not have worked for me. In fact it seemed to take longer, like it was looking for the image to load and stalling.

OK, I have done it,is there any significance in the logo and progress bar before startup? I know I can find out that I can find out if there is static or not.

if you get the winxp msconfig and install it on a 2k computer then it may work

i think all it dose is stops you looking at a blank screan as windows starts but as the image has to be loaded when its enabled it slows your boot time down

I just tried it and the only difference I saw was I stared at a black screen instead of the Welcome screen. Welcome screen looks better than black so I put it back.

Lets say my pc is very fast and that the loading time is already the fastest. With/without the screen its the same time. So I think of placing the screen

on my computer with the guiboot enabled from pressing the power button to showing the log on screan takes 26 seconds with it disabbled it takes 21 seconds i have timed it 6 times each way and the results are all ways the same give or take the odd half second so its one of those tweaks that works for some but not all.
i have a amd2600 xp cpu msi kt4 ultra mobo 2 seagate baracoda hdds 7200 rpm 100gb each 1gig ddr 400ns ram and an ati rad 9700pro vid card using the latest omaga drivers and sound blaster live 5.1 sound
lit on cdrw and a dvdrw runing xp pro with all service packs and updates
if you list your specks we can see if thare is a patton on which systems it works for and which ones show no difrence

If my life got to the point where 5 seconds made a difference I would just leave the thing on 24/7
